Chevrolet has shown off two junior sportscar concepts at the Detroit motor show.

Don’t get too excited, neither the Code 130R or the Tru 140S have been confirmed for production, and even if they do make it they’re likely to be based on the same mechanical underpinnings as the distinctly underwhelming Chevolet Cruze. But we can report that both had plenty of presence on the company’s show stand.

The Chevolet Code 130R looks something like a cross between the BMW 1-Series coupe and the Chevolet camaro, with the combination of a three-box layout and an upright stance clearly intended to make it look like a miniature muscle car. The end result isn’t entirely convincing – but its certainly looks far better than Chevy’s insipid US mainstream offerings.

The Chevrolet Code 140S has more promise, as a sleeker sports coupe that’s clearly been inspired by rivals like the Volkswagen Scirocco and Hyundai Veloster – and which appears to have lifted the Lamborghini Gallardo’s side window profile.

Chevy says that no decision has been made on putting either car into production – although we’d bet that at least one makes it – and the company will be using online feedback to decide on the two concepts’ fate, and also to – in GM’s own words – ‘crowdsource’ ideas for interior design. We’d suggest seats. And a dashboard.
