Watch - Koenigsegg One:1 smashes Agera R's 0-300-0 km/h time

Koenigsegg test driver beats the company's own record by over three seconds

'Do not try this at home', reads the message on Koenigsegg's video of the 1341bhp One:1 accelerating to 300km/h - that's 186.4mph - and back to zero again in under eighteen seconds.

You might expect that's because of the speed, and then dismiss it on the basis that you'll probably never own a One:1 anyway.

But actually, it might be something to do with the fact that factory driver Robert Serwanski barely touches the steering wheel during the run - making only minor course adjustments as the car slingshots up the firm's test track in Ängelholm, Sweden.

The run to 300km/h and back again was completed in just 17.95 seconds, having reached maximum velocity in 11.92sec and used the remaining 6.03sec to bring the car to a halt.

That's 3.24sec quicker than the Agera R achieved doing the same run. Further accelerative potential is clear in the car's 0-200-0mph run of 20.71sec. The time to reach the double-ton? 14.328sec. When Jethro Bovingdon tested the One:1 in evo 202, he described the sensation of acceleration:

'At 2000rpm the One:1 is starting to really ramp-up. It already feels, I ponder, up there with a 991 Carrera at full noise. Then it hits 3000rpm and my brain quickly cycles through other frames of referenc... the Carrera GT is gone, an Enzo shrinking away like a diesel supermini.

'Now 4500rpm: boom, the P1 and 918 evaporate and the indelible memory of the knockout hit of torque from a Veyron Super Sport when it hits full boost leaks away like grains of sand through my fingers. 'From 5000rpm to the 8250rpm limiter, all cognitive reasoning gets battered into submission.'
