Lexus LFA tribute video

As Lexus LFA production ends, its creator pays tribute to the screaming V10 supercar

Lexus has released a video paying tribute to its LFA supercar. Corporate videos are increasingly common, and most days a handful of official manufacturer films promote – or often frustratingly tease – new models. Every so often, though, one sticks out and deserves some more focused attention. One with a screaming V10 peppered through its official company message is a good example. The Lexus LFA ceased production at the end of 2012, drawing to a close a 12-year era from the car’s initial conception through its development to its production in 2010. It finished fourth in evo’s Car of the Year contest, but went on to greater things when it beat the Ferrari 599 GTO in a twin test in 2011, its sonorous engine note and rich dynamic character enough to create a proper supercar shock. As the video below details, the aim was to build ‘not just a supercar, but create an unprecedented drivers’ car’. The 552bhp, 202mph Lexus LFA will go down as a performance car all-time great, but with no direct replacement planned, the video closes with a montage of more mainstream models which are clearly being purported to contain LFA DNA. To quote eCoty 2010, ‘there really is nothing else in the world quite like the Lexus LFA’.
