Mercedes-AMG E63 S pumped to 888bhp by Brabus

An increase in displacement and a host of cosmetic upgrades are part of the new Brabus 900 E63 tuning package

Brabus has already made its mark on the latest Mercedes-AMG E63 S with its ‘800’ tuning package, but there’s now something for those who desire a little more. The Brabus 900 takes modifications up a notch with a more comprehensive engine upgrade, aesthetic tweaks and a suite of aerodynamic components.

In place of the factory 4-litre V8 now sits an enlarged 4.5-litre unit, with larger pistons, a billet crankshaft and new piston rods fitted for a lengthened stroke. High pressure fuel pumps, an uprated intake and a less restrictive valved stainless steel exhaust system are also equipped to maximise output – the latter includes enlarged downpipes, sports catalytic converters and new particulate filters.

Brabus has also developed a new turbocharging package, with the standard pair swapped for turbos with larger compressor units and an uprated core assembly for an increase in peak boost pressure. ‘BoostExtra’ adapters are also fitted purely for entertainment, ensuring an audible blow-off sound on lift off…

As with all of the firm’s packages, an ECU tune ties the new hardware together, tweaking mapping for injection, ignition and boost pressure control for optimum power delivery, throttle response and emissions – Brabus says that despite its ludicrous output, the 900 is in compliance with EURO 6D emissions standards.

The result is an output of 888bhp and 774lb ft of torque, a staggering increase of 285bhp and 147lb ft over standard – Brabus even claims the engine is capable of 922lb ft of torque with these modifications, but output is electronically limited in order to preserve the drivetrain.

Thanks to the use of AMG’s sophisticated 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and nine-speed automatic transmission, the Brabus 900 is said to sprint from standstill to 62mph in a mind-boggling 2.8sec, six tenths faster than standard. Perhaps even more impressive is its 205mph top speed, a considerable jump over the factory 155mph figure.

Performance aside, Brabus has also fitted a host of aerodynamic components. Available in either gloss or matte carbonfibre are intake surrounds, grille intake inserts, a front splitter, rear lip spoiler and a more aggressive rear diffuser to house the new titanium exhaust tips.

21-inch ‘Monoblock Z’ forged wheels are wrapped in 265-section front and 305-section rear tyres, lifted into the arches by 20mm with an air suspension software tweak. All exterior trim is also painted black to boost aggression and the new 4.5-litre V8 is fitted with a red Brabus carbonfibre engine cover for added flare.

Inside, buyers can opt for a completely unique, reupholstered interior with new trim available in numerous wood or carbonfibre finishes. New paddle shifters, aluminium door lock pins, Brabus backlit stainless steel scuff plates and more are also on the options list.

The Brabus 900 is available either as a package to be added to a customer-supplied E63 or as a complete car, and comes with a three-year or 62,000-mile warranty for peace of mind.
