Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT unveiled

Mercedes-Benz has released details on the SLS AMG GT, a more hardcore and more powerful version of the SLS

Mercedes has revealed that it will be launching the SLS AMG GT, a new firmer and more powerful car, which will be sold along side the standard SLS in the UK from November.

With an additional 20bhp, the new GT pushes out 583bhp, which when combined with a re-programmed gearbox control unit for faster shifts, gives the new Mercedes a slightly quicker 0-62 time of 3.7 seconds, down from 3.8. Top speed remains electronically limited to 197mph.

The extra power comes from a re-mapped ECU and what Mercedes describe as ‘in-engine dethrottling measures.

Other substantial changes include a re-worked suspension system, which now only offers Sport and Sport Plus settings – which are both stiffer than the standard car’s three-stage system. Mercedes is aiming for more of a sports car feel, and has lost Comfort mode all together.

Cosmetic improvements include darker head and tail lamps, with a new flat-bottomed alcantara steering wheel dominating the mildly facelifted interior.
