evo issue 229 - 2016 Car of the year

It's evo Car of the year once again - plus the BAC Mono 2.5, Peugeot vs VW GTIs, and more

evo Car of the year is our annual celebration of the best drivers’ cars on sale - and in the latest issue of evo magazine, on sale now, you’ll find out which of those cars has wowed us the most.

What makes eCoty special, apart from the stunning locations we travel to and the roads we drive in order to put each car through its toughest challenge, is that a hot hatch is as likely to win as a six-figure supercar - and as you’ll have seen from our previews, there are some fantastic examples of each in this year’s test.

So if you want to see how cars like the Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S fared against the V10-engined Audi R8 V10 Plus and Lamborghini Huracan, pick up issue 229 of evo at your local newsagent.

There’s more to the latest issue than evo Car of the year, of course. We’ve also pitched two of the most usable daily hot hatches, the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Peugeot 308 GTI, in a head-to-head test.

Offering less power but even more fun is the humble Citroen C1, the subject of a new race series. We could find no better test for the car, which could be one of the least expensive ways into motorsport, than racing it for 24 hours around the Anglesey circuit in Wales.

We’ve also got a track test of the BAC Mono 2.5 (also at Anglesey), and with Christmas on the horizon there’s a comprehensive product guide to give you some ideas.

Also driven in this month’s issue are the Audi R8 V10 Spyder, Ferrari California T HS, Renault Clio 220 Trophy, BBR Mazda MX-5 Super 200, BMW M240i and Porsche 718 Cayman.

Our news pages focus on 2017’s hottest cars - think Civic Type R, Renault Sport Clio RS16 and the new Alpine sports car - and we take a look at the all-new Mercedes-AMG E63 and freshly-unveiled BMW 5-series.

In Fast Fleet you can read Richard Meaden’s thoughts on 10,000 miles with a Bentley Continental GT V8 S and see how much editor Nick Trott has spent on his old Porsche 911, and in this month’s Market pages you can find out the real-world cost of running a supercar of your own. All this, and more, in issue 229 of evo, on sale Wednesday November 2nd, 2016.
