Automobili Pininfarina Pura Vision revealed as luxury SUV concept

The all-electric Pininfarina Pura Vision previews the marque’s future models with cutting-edge tech and a bold new design

Automobili Pininfarina has revealed the Pura Vision, a bold all-electric design concept said to offer a look into the future of the marque’s lineup. Set to make its public debut at Monterey Car Week later this month, there are no plans for the Pura Vision to enter production, but its technology and design are likely to filter down into Pininfarina models of the future.

Launched just a few weeks after the limited-run Battista Edizione Nino Farina, the model has been designed in-house with striking cab-rear proportions, a narrow glasshouse and pillarless doors, said to improve interior access and useability. Its low bonnet and high wings reference the 1947 Cisitalia sports car, with hidden headlights and nanofibre daytime running lights creating a unique aesthetic – these units utilise thin, 1mm fibres that are said to improve cooling and aerodynamic balance. Being a design study, specifics on its powertrain haven’t been disclosed, but we do know that it’s all-electric.

Paolo Dellachà, Chief Executive Officer for Automobili Pininfarina, said: 'Pura Vision is the bridge from our present to an exciting new chapter in the history of Automobili Pininfarina. In our fifth year, we have already celebrated our unique heritage with the introduction of the Battista Edizione Nino Farina. Pura Vision previews an exciting future and shows what can be achieved if we apply our Pura design principles to an entirely new kind of vehicle.'

Bearing a striking resemblance to certain other new Italian super SUV, the Pura Vision is equipped with 23-inch wheels, an expansive panoramic roof and what Pininfarina calls a ‘biscotto’ centre section – this fixed central piece is framed by a ring of LED lights, and is designed to support the upward-opening rear doors.

Said to have been inspired by the Lancia Florida saloon, the cabin is a light, airy space thanks to the use of curved door glass, with the skateboard battery layout allowing for a flat floor. Pininfarina says the driving position “has more in common with a two-seater”, with the driver provided with vital information via a digital dash and a head-up display. There’s also a larger central infotainment unit, but this can be electronically stowed when not in use.

The Pininfarina Pura Vision will make its debut at Monterey Car Week this month alongside the new Battista Edizione Nino Farina hypercar.
