There were a mere 90 miles on the odometer of OU51 AAF when it arrived at evo HQ. Art director Smith kindly took care of the running-in, so by the time the key dropped into my palm the Audi was all set for the high-mileage pasting I give all my long-termers as evo's resident snapper.
Keeping pace with a group test is a stiff test, especially so when it's a hot hatch test conducted by the rapid Barker-Bovingdon-Meaden triumvirate and the car in question is carrying the full weight penalty of the mighty Morgan/Shepherd inventory. Much to my surprise the A4 coped well. OK, it wasn't snapping at their heels under acceleration but it was never far behind, and being a quattro, the twisty Welsh roads proved no problem.
However, all is not rosy in the Audi garden. Under full load in third and fourth gear, there's a flat-spot that causes the A4 to stumble. It may be a turbo boost fault, or perhaps a fuel feed problem, it's difficult to tell. Fear not though. I can see a building. I can see a name on it. Yes, it's my local Audi dealership. More revelations next month.
