Mitsubishi Evo: Evo IX bows out with special edition

‘MR’ promises improved handling

For the Evo IX’s swansong, Mitsubishi has come up with this, the Evolution IX MR (for ‘Mitsubishi Racing’) FQ-360.

Performance figures remain the same as the standard FQ-360 – 366bhp, 363lb ft, 0-60mph in 3.9sec – but the MR benefits from a number of chassis modifications carried out by Mitsubishi Racing in Japan, further enhancing the IX’s already incredible agility.

The MR's turbo features titanium-aluminium alloy fins and a smaller compresser inlet diameter, improving response and cutting lag. However, it's the new Eibach springs, lowering the Evo by 10mm at the front and 5mm at the rear, that are said to make the real difference. Mitsubishi claims the set-up improves the operation of the Super Active Yaw Control and enhances high-speed stability.

The MR FQ-360 costs £34,539 and just 200 will be made.
