Lamborghini Aventador made rear-drive by Oakley

Oakley Design tunes the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 supercar. More power, rear wheel drive

Oakley Design is to build a rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Aventador. The LP760-2 will be limited to five cars, three of which are already sold. The removal of the front differential, drive shafts and front drivetrain parts will save weight by 85 kilos. The work doesn’t end there though.

Lamborghini’s claimed outputs of 690bhp and 508lb ft of torque will be increased by around 10 per cent with an ECU remap optimising a larger airbox and intake pipe, along with a titanium exhaust system that saves over 30 kilos. The aim is 760bhp and 550lb ft.

New wheels save 4kg per corner over the standard items; the standard Pirelli P Zero tyres remain. Oakley is developing suspension upgrades and has honed new aero parts in the MIRA wind tunnel.

The standard car’s four-wheel drive and already substantial power and torque enable it to get from standstill to 60mph in a claimed 2.9sec. The Oakley Aventador’s traction disadvantage and uprated power will probably make it slower off the line, but overall it sounds like it could be outrageously good fun.

Oakley has made some great improvements to Porsche GT2s and GT3s, so this project has potential. Maybe Lamborghini itself will make a rear-wheel drive version…
