Porsche Cayenne: Most focused Cayenne yet

New ‘GTS’ model gets shorter gearing, more sporting chassis

Based on the normally-aspirated Cayenne S, the GTS has a 4.8-litre V8 developing 405bhp, 20bhp more than the S, and a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, with a six-speed Tiptronic auto as an option. With a shorter final drive ratio, it accelerates from 0-62mph in a claimed 6.1sec, some 0.5sec faster than the S.

The chassis has been tailored for fast road driving, sitting 24mm lower all-round and, for the first time on a Cayenne, using PASM-controlled steel springs, hardware previously reserved as a performance option on Porsche’s 911, Cayman and Boxster models. The GTS can be fitted with optional air suspension for those who wish to retain the ability to raise and lower the ride height.

Visually, the GTS is distinguished by its Cayenne Turbo-style nose and new 21in alloy wheels, which have necessitated 14mm wheelarch extensions. Inside, extensive use of Alcantara gives the GTS a suitably sporting ambience.

It goes on sale next February, with prices starting at £54,350.
