Renault is the latest car maker to launch a sequential semi-manual gearbox. 'Quickshift5,' as it is known, is operated by a traditionally sited gearlever, and is currently available only on the 75bhp 1.2 litre Clio.

Renault emphasises ease of use rather than performance advantages, and it is unlikely to make it into the Sport 172.
