Renaultsport Megane R26.R

The hum of the tyres and whine of the gearbox is the only music the R26.R makes

Renaultsport Megane R26.R

So, I find myself in yet another car with no radio. Do I miss the dulcet tones of Sir Tel in the morning and the hilarity of The News Quiz on a Friday evening? Well, yes. But I’ve come to the conclusion that the rest of the time radio silence is golden. I don’t have breasts and therefore can’t multitask, so my driving definitely improves slightly without any distractions. And whilst music can be uplifting, there is sometimes the feeling that from dawn to dusk we live our lives to a constant soundtrack. So when I’m stuck in traffic or travelling on an empty motorway late at night I like the fact that I have plenty of time to just hang in the harness, soothed by the hum of the tyres, and make plans, mull over problems or daydream about winning Rally Finland.

Of course, if you have an R26.R and really feel bereft without the chattering airwaves then you can do as Paul Lang did and leave a shower radio swinging from the rear-view mirror, where it also doubles as a G-meter.
