Growler Jaguar E-type recreation revealed

The Jaguar E-type is recreated in the shape of the Swedish designed, V8 powered Growler. News and pictures here

Swedish car design firm Vizualtech has confirmed it will build a very limited run of its Growler, inspired by the legendary Jaguar E-type. Its current plans are that only a few of these super rare ‘cat copies’ will be produced. The increasingly common modernised classic styling (see Mini Cooper, Fiat 500, Ford GT et al) will be coupled with the heart of the existing Jaguar XKR. Jaguar’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8 already boasts a substantial 503bhp, but Vizualtech promises some choice tweaks that are said to provide 600bhp and a sub-4sec 0-60mph time.  This V8-powered recreation will simply be named ‘Growler’, which suggests American muscle despite the car being British-powered and Swedish-designed.  Back in 1961, the E-type was the fastest road car you could buy, however in the world of the Bugatti Veyron and Lamborghini Aventador, the Growler won’t be breaking any speed records. It could, however, break the bank: a 700,000 US Dollar estimate (nearly £450,000) is surely not a befitting memory to the heroic E-type that cost £2256 back in 1961. That price today converts to around £38,000. A Porsche Boxster rather than a Carrera GT, in other words… The huge price estimate could rise if the number of cars produced stays in single figures, but all this pales into insignificance when you consider what the Growler is truly trying to replicate. The Jaguar E-type is surely a contender for one of the greatest sports cars of all time. With a stratospheric price tag and questionable looks (and that name), the Growler will surely remain in the vast shadow of its inspiration.
