Mercedes-Benz is hoping this new range-topping A210 Evolution will inject a bit of excitement into the otherwise worthy A-class range. The car features a new 2.1-litre four producing 140bhp and 153lb ft of torque. Performance won't be startling (0-62mph in 8.2 sec and 126mph) but an AMG styling package, including 17-inch wheels, front spoiler with integrated fog lights, side skirts and a new grille, ensures the A210 Evo will look the part.

The interior, too, has been thoroughly revised. Sports seats wrapped in a combination of leather and Alcantara set the style, which is carried through with a new two-tone sports steering wheel and silver dials housed in a brushed aluminium dash and centre console. Prices will start at £19,000 when the Evolution hits the showrooms in March.
