Lexus IS250 Cabrio

Drop-top IS250C makes its global debut

The Lexus IS range has gained a convertible version for the first time. The IS250C boasts an aluminium folding-roof, which Lexus claims has the quickest three-part roof opening time in the business, at a sprightly 20sec. The lighter, more space efficient roof also boosts the rear space and limits the effect on styling, which can be a problem with folding hard-top cars.

It allows the IS250C to be a well-proportioned car, with aerodynamic aids such as a 'duck-tail' designed rear to give the IS a more slippery shape, which is miles more desirable than Lexus' other open-top car, the pricier SC. The IS250C uses the existing 2.5-litre V6 from the petrol IS, mated to a six-speed auto, with 205bhp on tap. Prices should be around £30,000 when the IS goes on sale, which should be in time for next summer - when the UK weather will probably make you thankful for that metal roof.
