Ferrari’s latest California T is Tailor Made for Goodwood

Ferrari joins other luxury marques in offering a more personalised service

There’s something of a horse theme to the Ferrari California T Tailor Made. The famous Cavallino badge, for a start. Then, there’s the fact the specially-enhanced California is inspired by polo and horse racing.

Finally, it’s to be launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not a horse event in its own right, but if there’s one thing the Goodwood estate is known for other than motor racing, it’s sport of an equine variety.

Ferrari Tailor-Made is the Italian marque’s in-house personalisation program, similar to Q by Aston Martin. As you’d expect, it’s a chance for customers to customise their cars beyond the range of standard options available when selecting trim and options at a dealership.

The company says there’s now an ‘unprecedented’ choice of finishes, accessories, materials, treatments and colours available, while clients are guided through the process of personalising their vehicles by their own Personal Designer.

Ferrari suggests the Personal Designer will ensure cars are both unique and consistent with the Ferrari brand and its tradition, so mercifully we should be spared the sight of hot pink 588 GTBs trimmed with gold leaf and lilac leather.

The Goodwood California T is, to that end, suitably tasteful. Exterior surfaces are finished in Bianco Italia, with an offset stripe in Blue Hellen. This blue theme is continued inside, with Blu Sterling interior trim and Bianco elements. Less appealing are the blue carbon finish inserts, though the silver and blue 20-inch wheels look better in pictures than they sound on paper.

More interesting is the ‘Mycro Prestige’ fabric used across the seats. The synthetic material has high grip – ideal for holding you in place in enthusiastic cornering, and is light weight. It’s also flameproof and water resistant.

Unfortunately, you’ll not be able to see the California T Tailor Made at Goodwood unless you’ve access to Ferrari’s VIP hospitality enclosure for Ferrari clients. Those clients will also be able to leaf through a selection of the materials Tailor Made offers.
