Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario

The Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario celebrates the Italian firm's 50th birthday, and there's a Gallardo LP560-2 special edition too

Lamborghini is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and part of the festivities include this special edition Aventador, the LP720-4 50 Anniversario. It debuts at the 2013 Shanghai motor show, where there’ll also be a Gallardo LP560-2 50 Anniversario on display. As the name suggests, the Aventador’s 6.5-litre V12 has a slightly raised output, from 700 to 720PS – 710bhp in our money. It’s a small difference that doesn’t boost the performance of the regular LP700-4 (0-62 in 2.9sec, top speed 217mph).  The body gains a striking aero kit that apparently makes the Aventador up to 50 per cent more aerodynamically efficient than standard. It also looks notably more aggressive, with a huge rear diffuser that resembles that of the mad Lamborghini Veneno, which was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show.  The striking yellow Giallo Maggio paint counteracts the black aero kit in typical Lamborghini fashion and the black/yellow theme continues on the interior as well, though any colour imaginable can be specced via Lambo’s Ad Personam scheme. The LP720-4 50 Anniversario will be limited to 100 examples.

Those who miss out might be interested in the similarly special Gallardo, which hasn’t been unveiled yet but looks set to mate the 552bhp tune of 5.2-litre V10 engine with rear wheel drive, while the Shanghai motor show car will combine shimmering white paint and a transparent engine cover with the carbonfibre rear wing from the Gallardo Superleggera.
