The 200mph club - the fastest road cars ever

The evo 200 club

The 200mph barrier is a right of passage for some supercars, granting them access into an elite club of the absolute fastest vehicles on the road.

Some more modern cars have gone way beyond the 200mph mark, but the tradition actually started way back in 1987 with the now iconic Ferrari F40.

A lot of the cars on this list will come as no surprise to you, but there are a few surprises hidden in also. Highlights include the below. You can find the rest in the gallery above.

Lamborghini Diablo

First put into production in 1990, the Diablo is one of the last true great analogue supercars. It featured a 5.7-litre V12 capable of outputting 485bhp and 428 lb ft of torque.

Top speed was 203mph which for the time, made it one of the fastest production cars available.

McLaren F1

Perhaps the most iconic top speed car of all, the McLaren F1 remains one of the all time great road cars ever produced. Its naturally aspirated V12 is responsible for achieving the highest top speed ever recorded from a non-turbo road car.

Posting a recorded 242.4mph in 1998, the F1 instantly secured its place in the motoring hall of fame.

Ferrari LaFerrari

As time moved on, top speed started to come second to handling and cornering speeds. Engine technology and advancements in composite materials has also meant that most true supercars come close to, if not break, the 200mph barrier.

Ferrari's LaFerrari is part of the new crop of hybrid supercars and is capable of delivering a 217mph+ top speed thanks to its 950bhp hybrid powertrain.
