Video: Mazda 787B at Le Mans

Onboard video as Johnny Herbert takes the stunning Mazda 787B for a demonstration lap ahead of the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours

It’s nearly a week since Le Mans – long enough for the sunburn of most race fans to have started to fade – but we’ve just tracked down this super-cool onboard footage of Johnny Herbert driving the mighty Mazda 787B around the circuit during his ‘demonstration run’ before the race.

Considered by many to be one of the best-looking (and best sounding) racers of all time, the 787B has a four-rotor Wankel engine producing around 680bhp. It took overall victory in the 24 Hours back in 1991, being driven by Herbert, Bertrand Gachot and Volker Weidler. Since winning it’s spent the last 20 years as star exhibit in Mazda’s Hiroshima museum.

Herbert clearly isn’t on the same pace that propelled him to victory 20 years ago, but nor is he being exactly shy with the priceless Group C racer.
