Formula 1 livery-inspired Mercedes-AMG SL63 Motorsport Collectors Edition revealed

Limited-run Mercedes-AMG SL63 takes inspiration from the firm’s W12 E Performance Formula 1 car

To celebrate its 2022 Formula 1 season, Mercedes-AMG has launched the SL63 Motorsport Collectors Edition. Limited to just 100 units worldwide, the special edition features a unique livery inspired by Mercedes-AMG’s 2022 W12 E Performance F1 car, alongside plenty of standard kit.

Near-identical in execution to the exclusive AMG GT Black Series Project One Edition (only available to buyers of the flagship hypercar), the two-tone livery features a gradient from high-tech silver to obsidian black, with Petronas green accents on the sills, diffuser and front bumper – the same graduated three-pointed star pattern as on the Black Series also makes an appearance.

To match the livery, its matt black 21-inch 10-twin-spoke wheels come with unique Petronas green accents around the rim. Both available ‘Night packages’ are also fitted giving it a stealthy darkened finish on the splitter, side sills, mirror caps, diffuser and quad tailpipes. Black chrome also makes an appearance on the grille and badging, with the head and tail light inserts also darkened. Calipers for its composite brakes are black too, with the new fuel filler cap silver chrome with AMG lettering.

In contrast to its revised aesthetics, performance remains identical to the standard SL63. AMG’s 4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 sends 577bhp and 560lb ft of torque to all four wheels through its nine-speed automatic transmission, enough for a 3.6sec 0-62mph time and 195mph top speed.

There’s also not much change inside, with standard AMG Performance seats available in black leather and microfibre with either red or yellow contrast stitching. Being a special edition, Mercedes-AMG has ticked all of the option boxes, adding embossed AMG emblems in the head rests, carbonfibre trim, the Burmester sound system and Driving Assistance package. Each of the 100 buyers will also receive a customised AMG indoor car cover with the car.

Prices for the Motorsport Collectors Edition haven’t been disclosed, but expect a hike over the SL63’s £171,725 base price.
