Cupra Formentor tuned to 365bhp by Abt Sportsline

Cupra’s first bespoke model has been fettled by German tuner Abt Sportsline upping power

SEAT’s performance offshoot Cupra launched the all-new Formentor SUV last year, its first bespoke model, joining the Ateca and Leon in its fast-growing range. As with many VW-group models, Abt Sportsline has already devised an upgrade package, increasing performance and offering some bespoke aesthetic updates.

The current Formentor already produces a healthy 306bhp and 295lb ft of torque, but with the use of a piggyback tune on the standard ECU Abt has extracted an additional 59bhp and 37lb ft of torque. This gives its 2-litre EA888 four-pot 365bhp and 332lb ft, reducing the 0-62mph to 4.6sec, three tenths sooner than a factory car.

Though buyers can opt for the engine tune on its own, Abt is also offering an array of new wheel options in various sizes, designs and finishes. The 20-inch Abt Sport GR (pictured) is available in gloss or matte black, however there are 19-inch options available too.

On the options list from the end of Q1 2021 will be a new stainless steel exhaust system, increasing sound and enhancing looks with its larger, matte black tips. Abt suspension springs can also be fitted, dropping the ride height by up to 35mm which will help those new wheels fill the arches.

These ECU upgrades will join a lesser-powered dealer-fit Abt upgrade currently available in the UK, which drops power by around 20bhp at 345bhp. While this isn’t quite as rapid, it does offer that extra peace of mind associated with it being a dealer-fit accessory. Prices for both the dealer-fit option, or Abt’s separately available kit have yet to be confirmed locally.
