Electric Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow concept to be revealed at Pebble Beach

Mercedes-Benz has teased a new technology concept that will debut at Pebble Beach on 24 August.

Mercedes-Benz will bring a new, retro-futuristic concept to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week later this month, likely to be called the EQ Silver Arrow.

The latest teaser is a short video of Mercedes’ chief designer, Gorden Wagener, sketching a silhouette on paper, but we’ve already seen Merc reveal a sculpture along similar lines under the 'Aesthetics Progressive Luxury' tag.

Details about the new show car are vague, but thanks to its extraordinary proportions we expect it to be more of a EV tech showcase than a new model preview. That means the EQ Silver Arrow’s electric powertrain will be of special interest when the wraps come off.

The video has been tagged with #eqsilverarrow, which confirms the new concept will have a retro-racer theme, sharing its name with the iconic Mercedes racing cars from the early 20th century. The open-cockpit silhouette sketched in the video shows wheels protruding above the main body, but whether they’ll be aerodynamically shrouded as per the sculpture or an open-wheel design remains a mystery for now.

Mercedes is no stranger to producing wild concept cars with a retro-vibe, and at previous Pebble Beach events has shown off models like the Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Coupe and Roadster. Both wowed the crowds with their exaggerated proportions and surreal detailing.

Although these types of concept cars rarely, if ever, refer to a specific production model, they do often provide insights into future design aesthetics and detailing styles. While we can’t rule out more teasers before the big unveil, we’ll get to see the EQ Silver in full later this month when it’s revealed on the glamorous lawns of Pebble Beach.
