Two wins for Thompson as rain hits Donington Park's Touring Car round

James Thompson had a good weekend at Donington, as the former champion was victorious in races one and two. He made the most of changing conditions, winning a soaking first race and a dry second one. In turn, he became the first driver to take two back-to-back victories this season.

It was the first wins this season for Team Dynamics and its Honda Civic this season, too.

Winner of race three was Robert Collard in his Airwaves BMW 320si, picking up his second victory of the season. It still ensures a varied season, with seven different winners from nine races.

VX Racing’s Matt Neal still has a comfortable lead at the top of the drivers’ standings, however, after picking up a couple of podium finishes. His closest rival, Team RAC’s Colin Turkington, finished second in race three to keep his sights on Neal in the drivers’ championship, below.

There was good news at last for Team Aon, too, with Tom Chilton taking the Ford Focus ST – which has heavily revised for Donington – to its first ever points finish.

The next round is at Cheshire’s Oulton Park on May 31 2009.
