Turn the ESP off and you can go playing in the snow. But something else happens too...

ESP off. Roundabout. Zed goes a looooong way sideways. ESP definitely off. ESP still off as I pull slowly out of a snowy car park… and the little yellow light starts flashing and the power is cut. ESP apparently lying about its off status. More investigation with snow and roundabouts needed.
