SEAT Leon review - a Golf fighter at every level - SEAT Leon interior and tech

SEAT's Leon is much more than a Volkswagen Golf understudy

Evo rating

from £20,000
  • Neat styling, spacious interior, tidy handling, economy
  • Interior a touch plain and dark, high rear boot lip

The interior is, like the exterior, a mix of flat surfaces and sharp creases, it all feeling a bit austere in S trim, SE models lifting the cabin a bit thanks to some ambient lighting and chrome trim. In all models the slim front pillars are noteworthy, giving the driver a superb view out the front. The visibility out of the rear isn’t brilliant in comparison, but that’s a complaint that's not unique to the SEAT Leon in this class. Space is good for four adults, with ample leg- and headroom in the back seats, though a fifth passenger will be a squeeze.

The boot is competitive rather than class-leading on space, its usefulness limited by a high lip that makes access a bit tricky. If you want loading space - and a flat floor when the seats are folded - you’ll need the smartly styled ST estate.

The tech count is good, with even the S getting that touch-screen infotainment system that features DAB radio, Bluetooth and audio connectivity, while higher specfication models get a larger 8-inch display with integrated sat nav and phone mirroring capability. The FR models and above now come with SEAT's Full Link set-up that combines Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link smartphone connectivity.
