Ferrari California T review - Is the California T a true Ferrari? - Performance and 0-60

A capable, fast and polished GT - the Ferrari California T is still lacking in that intangible Ferrari magic

  • A brilliant GT; impressive turbo V8
  • We’d sooner have a 458

Performance and 0-60 mph time

Central to the California T’s upgrade over the original is that new engine. The all-new turbocharged V8 differs from the 4.3-litre V8 in the old California thanks to the new, more GT appropriate, character that extra torque grants you. The figures of 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 196mph are certainly impressive, but compared to the old car it’s the mid-range punch that makes all the difference. These figures are particularly strong against rivals, with only the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet able to better the Ferrari.

Performance is supremely strong, and despite Ferrari’s variable torque feature, that we’ll go into later, the California’s low down performance is supremely strong, while low-rev response is also impressive for a car with this much performance.
