Lexus LF-A supercar at Ring 24 hours

The all-new Lexus LF-A V10 supercar to race in Nurburgring 24 hours as part of development

Lexus is entering two LF-A coupes into the Nurburgring 24 hours next month. Many had expected the V10 sports car to go the way of the Honda NSX, with a damaged market and increasing environmental pressures lessening the case for range-topping supercars.

An undeterred Lexus is putting rumours to bed, though, with two LF-A prototypes entering the day-long race of the Nordschleife as part of the car’s ongoing research and development for a road-going version. The 4.8-litre V10, producing around 500bhp, slots the car into class Division 2 SP8 – engine ‘close to production’.  That sounds like good news to us. The unit is front-mid mounted and mated to a paddle-shift sequential manual gearbox.

The LF-A raced in the 2008 Nurburgring 24 hours, finishing seventh in class out of 11 entrants. This year’s race takes place May 23-24, and our man John Barker is taking part in a gas-powered Volkswagen Scirocco. Keep your eyes on evo.co.uk to follow his progress.
