Subaru joins forces with Prodrive for Isle of Man lap record attempt

Mark Higgins returns to try and break the record

Subaru and Prodrive will attempt to break the current 19 min and 26 sec lap record for the Snaefell Mountain Course on the Isle of Man. Driven by rally ace Mark Higgins, the 2016 Subaru WRX STI features a huge rear wing, slick tyres, revised bodywork and a completely stripped out interior.

Prodrive is yet to reveal any exact details on the car, but given its legendary expertise with all things Subaru, expect it to be massively quick. The 296bhp 2.5-litre flat-four engine will likely be heavily revised in order to best the previous TT record.

Mark Higgins is known for his role as a stunt driver in James Bond's Spectre, but perhaps more so for his incredible save from a 150mph tank slapper at a previous run on the Isle of Man in 2011.

Subaru recently unveiled the new look Impreza at the New York auto show. For those interested, you can see that car in detail here.
