LOTUS has confirmed the lower-powered Elise we reported last month. Called the Elise S, it costs £23,995 and, despite its comparatively modest 134bhp, is claimed to sprint from zero to 60mph in 5.8sec. The price of the Europa S has also been announced – £32,995.

VAUXHALL has produced a special edition of the Astra with an intriguing ‘panoramic windscreen’ that extends halfway along the roof. Based on the 1.8-litre SRi Sport Hatch, it’s called the GTC. Just 500 will be made at a price of £15,995.

The job takes a couple of months and costs £60,000-100,000, plus the price of the base car.
