SV 9 Competizione supercar

SV reveals its Competizione - a mix of Italian style with Corvette V8 grunt

Meet the rather obscure but possibly brilliant SV 9 Competizione.

It’s the latest in an oddly affluent genre – the American muscle/Italian beauty hybrid. In recent years there have been several iterations, with a number of restyled Corvettes and the rather lovely Giugiaro Mustang we drove in 2007.

This one mates the current Corvette C6’s underpinnings and 6.2-litre V8 engine, apparently tuned up to 444bhp and 424lb ft, with styling that’s clearly inspired by the current crop of Italian exotica. While the proportions silhouette remain Corvette, the rear end is cut and pasted from an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione (hence the SV 9’s name) while the front end bears more than a passing resemblance to the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

The SV 9 uses carbonfibre bodywork and forged alloys, nudging its weight below 1.4 tons while inside there’s more carbonfibre as well as lashings of leather and customisable dials, the ones pictured looking more Mediterranean than American.

Performance is pretty potent, too, with a four second 0-60mph sprint, 12 second quarter mile time and 1.03g of lateral grip on tap, helped along by a fresh set of Pirelli Pzero Rosso tyres.

Just 1000 will be made, with a US price of 99,995 dollars (including the donor Corvette) converting to a fairly reasonable £61K in today’s money. Not bad at all. There’s a whole caboodle of colour, wheel and trim combinations, too, ensuring you can pick a unique one. Although the likelihood of a traffic light Grand Prix alongside another SV 9 Competizione is pretty low…
