BTCC Knockhill report

Drama aplenty and three different winners as the British Touring Cars hit Scotland

The Chevrolet Lacettis shone as the British Touring Car Championship headed North of the border to Knockhill in Scotland.

Mat Jackson made it onto the full trio of podiums, picking up a win in race three, while his teammate Jason Plato won the first race and completed a Racing Silverline one-two in the final one after a hugely impressive drive from last place on the grid. He did, however, have to retire in race two, which reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi won to continue his title push and take him within nine points of current leader Colin Turkington.

The Northern Irish driver has seen his lead cut in the past two rounds, with Giovanardi now looking like his only real rival to lift the trophy come the end of the season in October.

Turkington said - ‘It can be a rough ride at Knockhill and I very nearly got the measure of Fabrizio in race three. But even though he just kept ahead of me in that one I’m still very happy with my results here. Sure, he’s closed the gap, but I’ve limited the damage and next come what, on paper, are slightly more predictable circuits with Silverstone, Rockingham and Brands Hatch. Fabrizio and I have moved that wee bit further ahead of the rest again, but I’m still not ruling out Jason and Matt (Neal) coming back into it.’

Airwaves BMW’s Scottish driver Jonathan Adam had a less than successful homecoming round, unable to replicate his third place from qualifying and retiring from race three after his in-car fire extinguisher exploded its contents across him and the car.Knockhill Results
