Formula 1 test update

Mark Webber and Red Bull fastest on first day of final Formula 1 testing

With just 16 days to go before the first GP gets the green light in Bahrain, the teams have their final chance to get everything ready as they take part in the final official four day test at Barcelona. At the end of day one Red Bull look in best shape, with Mark Webber having set the fastest time of day, a second quicker than the rest. In a series of simulated qualifying runs he posted eight laps that were quicker than anyone else. Hulkenburg was closest in the Williams, setting his quickest lap with just a few minutes of the afternoon session left. Rosberg spent most of the day running long stints for the Mercedes team but scored his best – and the third fastest time of the day – during a five-lap, low fuel run just before lunch. Alonso suffered a mechanical problem early on and missed most of the morning, but his problems weren’t as large as those of Di Grassi in the Virgin. He hit the barriers before lunch and curtailed the day for the new team. 1    Webber          Red Bull        1m21.487s   2    Hulkenberg     Williams        1m22.407s  +0.920   3    Rosberg         Mercedes        1m22.514s  +1.027   4    de la Rosa      Sauber          1m23.144s  +1.657   5    Button           McLaren         1m23.452s  +1.965   6    Liuzzi            Force India     1m24.064s  +2.577   7    Alonso          Ferrari            1m24.170s  +2.683   8    Petrov           Renault         1m24.173s  +2.686   9    Alguersuari    Toro Rosso      1m24.869s  +3.382   10   Di Grassi       Virgin          1m27.057s  +5.570   11   Fauzy            Lotus           1m28.002s  +6.515
