Subaru Legacy

Detroit-bound concept shows a more dramatic look for new saloon

Subaru Legacy concept

Subaru has released this teaser image of the all-new, fifth-generation Legacy. The four-door concept will debut at the Detroit motor show in January, neatly coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Legacy's introduction in 1989.

Little is known about it yet, other than the concept will feature a 3.6-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine mated to Subaru's famous symmetrical four-wheel drive system. Looks-wise, it's a lot more dramatic than before with a big grille, sculptured bumpers and some snazzy LED-lit front lights that are a world away from the more conservative units in the current Legacy.

The car should be on sale in 2010, perking things up for Subaru following yesterday's sadder news that the brand has pulled its world rallying participation due to the plunging car market. Fingers crossed products like this - and the rumoured RWD coupe developed with Toyota - can push Subaru back in the right direction.
