Performance and 0-60 time

The Mulsanne is powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8, which in the standard car generates 505bhp and 752 lb ft of torque at just 1750rpm. This translates to a 0-60mph time of 5.1 seconds, hugely impressive when you consider the cars’ 2685kg kerb weight.

For the range-topping Mulsanne Speed, power is up to 530bhp and torque to an incredible 811 lb ft. As such the 0-60mph sprint drops to just 4.8 seconds with the car managing a 190mph top speed.

The torque is what you really feel on the road. The Mulsanne delivers its power so low down the rev range and shifts gear so smoothly that it gives an almost unrelenting feel to its acceleration. It's made all the more alarming by the sheer scale and size of the object that is being hauled down the road at such speed.

All that power makes the Mulsanne more exciting to drive than you might think. It's definitely not a car which you'd like to experiment with oversteer in, but out of slower corners the ability to blast such a big car forwards is definitely enjoyable. Above 2000 rpm it also makes a fantastic noise, which in typical Bentley fashion, is never too much.
