How much for a Bugatti Veyron warranty? A mere £10,000

Specialist cover for the W16 hypercar rolls into five figures

If value is a relative concept, then few things can be considered quite as good value as a £10,000 warranty on a £2million Bugatti Veyron.

Those are the respective figures quoted by used car warranty specialists Warrantywise and the value of the Veyron being offered by high-end car dealer Tom Hartley.

The former is the warranty firm’s most expensive cover quote to date – but on the seven-figure Veyron, where individual components can regularly reach high four- and five-figure sums, it seems like a shrewd move, particularly as the coverage offers unlimited claims up to the value of the car.

At half a per cent of the car’s value, it’d also be small change for the eventual owner – if that owner was even paying at all, since Tom Hartley will offer the car with the Platinum Plus warranty included.

As Warrantywise CEO Lawrence Whittaker says, some servicing and repair costs on the Veyron ‘will always run into the tens-of-thousands’, making aftermarket coverage a valuable move. While the company already has experience covering exotic vehicles, the Bugatti takes warranty quotations to a whole new level.

That is, until the Bugatti Chiron arrives. It’ll be some time before those fall out of official coverage, but when it does – being even more advanced than the Veyron it replaces – it’s sure to get aftermarket warranty firms hot under the collar…
