Geneva: Jaguar XKR-S: Jaguar’s 174mph XK

Chassis mods and raised speed limiter for XKR-S

Jaguar has just announced a new flagship model for its XK line. Called the XKR-S, it will be limited to just 200 examples and available only in Europe.

The 414bhp supercharged 4.2-litre V8 from the XKR has been left untouched, but dynamically the ‘S’ is very different. There’s revised suspension that includes new springs (lowering the ride height by 10mm), dampers and anti-roll bars, and recalibrated software for the CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) system. The speed limiter has been fettled too, allowing this XK to touch 174mph (albeit still limited), making it the fastest production Jaguar since the XJ220.

The XKR-S’s brakes have been suitably modified in partnership with Alcon – there are six-piston monoblock calipers gripping 400mm discs at the front, and four-piston calipers with 350mm discs at the rear. There are new lightweight 20in ‘Vortex’ alloys, too, equipped with bespoke tyres developed in conjunction with Pirelli.

Jaguar has also retuned the active exhaust system to deliver a much harder-edged sound under acceleration while retaining the hushed high-speed cruising ability Jags are so famous for.

Inside, the options list has been plundered and the cabin trimmed in soft-grain leather. Discreet ‘XKR-S’ badges leave occupants in no doubt that they are in a special XKR.

The XKR-S goes on sale in the summer, priced at £79,995 on the road.
