Teasing look at an intriguing take on the Kia Soul

Kia's Soul is a car that has been attracting quite a lot pf praise, but its five-door, mini-MPV body style has always kept it off our radar. That could all change with a new variant, previewed by a concept at next month's Detroit motor show.

There's only one picture so far, and as you can see it's pretty secretive stuff. Anything could lurk behind the driver's door, but seen in comparison to the regular car it is clear this is looking like a two-door of some description. A utilitatian coupe to take sales from the Mini could be on the cards, although a neat little pick-up (hence the North American debut?) is a possibility.

The stock Soul goes on sale in the UK in March '09, with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines and prices starting at around £10,000.
