The Italians turn to a Lamborghini LP560-4 for high speed policing

Think you can take your factory-fresh Ferrari for a blast down an Italian autostrada and go untouched? Think again - the Polizia have taken delivery of a brand spanking new Lamborghini LP560-4. And while it'll be used for various publicity events, it is destined for full service in the Italian police force - note the fully kitted out dashboard.

It won't be a mere panda car, with high-speed motorway use its specialty. As well as chasing down crims it comes complete with a defibrillator and the ability to transport emergency blood transfusions, making it a potential lifesaver, too.

It's not the first Gallardo to make it into police service - the Rome police force has ran an original-spec car for over four years, clocking up almost 87,000 miles while another baby Lambo has been used in Bologna since 2005, boasting over 62,000 miles. A bit of blue-light service seems to have proven the reliability of these modern-day Lamborghinis - can you imagine a Countach clocking up the best part of 100k miles of high-speed chasing?

The LP560-4 will begin service with the Lazio Highway Police Department 'in order to continue accident and crime prevention to sustain security on the Italian roads.' Or in other words, watch out, Italians...
