Mercedes-Benz C-class review (2014-2022) – design

Trades some dynamic ability and excitement for comfort - unless you opt for the AMG C63

Evo rating
RRP
from £30,850
  • S-class looks, exceptional interior quality, refined manners
  • Ultimately lacks driver engagement, four-cylinder models not the most inspiring

There’s something slightly awkward and truncated about the way the rear windscreen segues into the boot on the saloon that, naturally, isn’t present on the estate. However, neither version could be accused of being ugly, as the saloon looks like a shrunken S-class, which is meant as nothing but a compliment.

There are two dramatic swage lines that provide some visual interest on the C’s flanks and even on the smallest 16-inch wheels and in SE specification, a C-class looks like an expensive car. If it was our money going into a new one, we’d be opting for an estate with AMG Line specification and in a darker colour; Brilliant Blue, perhaps.

The Coupe and Cabriolet are both fine looking cars, and have a presence that far outweighs their cost.
