Coulthard and Priaulx-backed campaign to get people into motorsport

A high-profile initiative to get greater numbers of people involved in motorsport has kicked off. Several big names are endorsing the scheme designed to encourage not only new competitors, but a whole host of fans, spectators, officials and trackside marshals.

Go Motorsport is the UK's first centrally co-ordinated campaign, and is aimed at appealing to a non-motorsport audience. It has already received £250k in funding from the Motor Sports Association (MSA), the UK's governing body for motorsport - with more investment expected from the sport's many organisations and individuals.

Famous names backing the scheme range from F1 stars such as British world champion Damon Hill, David Coulthard and Jenson Button to Touring Car aces Jason Plato and Andy Priaulx - with Murray Walker, Martin Brundle and Vicki Butler-Henderson in between.

The main arsenal behind the scheme at the moment is a new website - www.GoMotorsport.net - which is intended to simplify things for beginners. It covers venues, costs, tips on driving disciplines, how to participate and who to approach - as well as explaining alternative, non-driving roles in motorsport that could appeal to people who weren’t already aware of them.

The chairman of the MSA, Alan Gow, reckons: “This is a hugely important initiative and has already received great support and enthusiasm not only from many of the most famous names in UK motor sport but also from all others involved in the sport such as circuit owners, championship organisers, drivers, teams and clubs across all disciplines.”

Our Henry is someone who's already made the move into motorsport, competing in his first season of the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup this year. You can read about his latest exploits in the next issue of the magazine, out on November 12.
