Peugeot 207 S16 hot hatch

Peugeot announces 207 S16. Not a reborn GTI hot hatch, but tribute to rally victories

Given that Peugeot has killed off the GTI badge, the announcement of the 207 S16 looks sneakily like the engineers have quietly developed something exciting and snuck it out the back door.

No such luck. Boasting a 120bhp 1.6 and 0-60mph in 10.7 seconds, this is no hot hatch. The fact it offers £1200-worth of extra kit over the standard Sport model is more exciting than the performance potential.

It’s a special edition, with 250 being built to celebrate Peugeot’s success in the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge), specifically Kris Meeke’s championship win last year. £14,695 buys you a three-door Bianca White 207 with RC Cup bodykit. Leather trim costs an extra £684, the stickers are optional.

Did you know: the S16 badge (widely used in Europe for the hottest versions of the 206 and 306) referred to the valve count, soupape being the French for valve.
