Bentley Mulsanne review - the ultimate in luxury? - MPG and running costs

Can the world's most torque-rich production car reward its driver?

Evo rating
RRP
from £229,360
  • Power delivery, ride, refinement, build quality
  • Interior tech, body roll, not exactly cheap

The Mulsanne’s 2685 kg kerb weight combined with its 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 aren’t exactly the ultimate recipe for economy, so it comes as no surprise then that the car only manages 19.3mpg on the combined cycle.

Real world use, with a mix of motorway and city work, saw us getting around 17mpg although we did manage about 22mpg on a longer cruise. The Mulsanne Speed matches the standard car for fuel consumption stats.

Emissions of 393g/km of CO2 put the Mulsanne in the M-rated tax band, which makes it pricey to run. Servicing equally so, although the sales network and aftersales care is as you’d expect from a car with a £200k+ price tag.

The cost of a Mulsanne itself is largely governed by how much you intend to personalise the car. A starting price of £230,515 is just the stepping off point. You can easily add £100k of options to a Mulsanne should you want a truly bespoke car.
