Audi A1 review - interior and tech

A1 exhibits all the usual Audi traits, but lacks any real fun factor.

  • Exceptional quality for such a small car and still fun to drive
  • Expensive compared to its rivals

Interior and Tech

Audi is a master of interiors and the A1, despite its diminutive proportions, is no exception. The fit and finish are exceptional, the materials all of the same high quality you’d find in the rest of the Audi range. In Sport models there’s aluminium trim inside, so even the air vents are a tactile treat, finished in a gloss black treatment

Those Sport equipped cars also come with Audi’s Drive Select, allowing you to choose different settings to sharpen up the drive. It’s a bit gimmicky in truth. You could spend more on the S line cars, but aside from the styling changes it brings little additional equipment of note, with the exception of the xenon headlamps and LED driving lights.

In terms of technology, the most interesting system is Audi's CoD (Cylinder on Demand) technology, added to certain versions when the A1 was refreshed in 2015. This shuts down two of the four cylinders to improve economy and reduce emissions.
