Audi A3 Sportback review - how does premium hatchback compete against rivals? - Audi A3 Sportback review - how does premium hatchback compete against rivals?

Pragmatic Sportback is no more fun to drive than an A3

Evo rating
RRP
from £19,985
  • High quality interior, excellent drivetrains, relaxed driving manners
  • Chassis lacks sparkle, exterior looks slightly ungainly

Design

It’s not as pretty as the three-door A3 but you’ll find few people who will actively complain about the Sportback’s appearance. It has that premium air about it that all good Audis should possess, the styling handsome but conservative, familiar yet not dull. As with so many modern cars, the bigger the wheels and the stronger the colour, the better the Sportback looks. This is presumably why so many people opt for them in S line trim, despite the expense, because the body kit and 18-inch alloys suit the shape so well.

On a connected note, standard hues are white, black and red, while metallic and pearl effect coats cost £525. Audi exclusive (£2025) allows you to pick from six special finishes or any colour in the wider Audi palette, while if you’ve got £2525, you can have your Sportback in any water-based metallic or pearl effect paint your heart desires.
