That being said, the Jaguar F-type has shown us that minute handling details and perfection are not always what the customer desires. Sometimes we just want to have fun, and that’s where the F-type Coupe R comes in. With a stonking great  supercharged 5-litre V8 upfront, the Jag arrives at 62mph five tenths quicker than the Porsche with a 4sec 0-62 time, and offers substantially more power with 542bhp on tap.

 And at £83,340 it sits just below the Carrera S to make it a lot of car for the money. Where the Jag falters is ultimate on the limit handling. Whilst it’s great fun and more than enough to get the heart racing, it lacks the ultimate precision of the Porsche. It’s no less of a car for it though, but a very different take on the sports car.
