Mercedes AMG GT vs Porsche 911 and rivals - 5 AMG GT rivals: Porsche 911

First up, it’s the Porsche 911. Many will consider this a done deal: the Porsche will reign supreme with its fine chassis balance and everyday usability. But in latest electronically assisted 991 guise, the 911 has lost a little of its much-loved steering feel. Many also claim that it lacks a little in the way of character, feeling a little clinical. Could this be a chance for Merc’s two-seater to capitalise?

Even with its tech related numbness, the 991 Porsche 911 is undoubtably another product of the Stuggart experts. They really know how to make a sports car handle, and the 991 is another representation of that. Whilst it lacks some of the raw feel enjoyed in earlier cars, in the AMG GT equivalent 394bhp £83,545 Carrera S spec, it’s even more capable, even more practical and more environmentally friendly than ever. It remains the car every sports car maker aims to beat, and with a new model set to arrive in 2017, all eyes will look to Porsche to see whether it can remain the benchmark for this segment.
