Lamborghini Huracan (2014-2019) review – design

Exciting, exotic and eccentric, the Huracan appeals on character as much as talent

Evo rating
  • V10 powertrain, balance, driver involvement
  • Lacks the handling finesse seen elsewhere in the class

Lamborghinis have always been just as much about design as they are about performance, as such the Huracán’s more subtle looks may not have gone down all that well in the bedroom wall stakes but it does form a good basis for the company’s more extreme forthcoming models.

Boasting compact dimensions, the Huracán utilises Lamborghini’s current angular design language, but has a more conservative overtone in it’s detailing. On the road the result is still very dramatic, and the design does well to echo classic cues like the Countach style reverse bonnet creases.

The new Performantè is the first hardcore model Lamborghini has based on the Huracán. With redesigned front and rear valances, the new car utilises new material technology pioneered by Lamborghini in conjunction with Callaway Golf for the front and rear carbon details. The Performantè also introduces active aerodynamics to the brand, with opening flaps in the front diffuser and an ingenious rear wing that can vary the airflow around and through it in cornering to increase downforce without physically moving on hydraulics.
