Soft top Huracan Performante roars in to the Geneva Show

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante was one of our favourite cars of the past 12 months, a hard-edged take on the ‘baby’ mid-engined Lambo and with the Nurburgring record lap time - for a while, at least - to back it up.

Now, perhaps inevitably, the firm has decided to offer it in a roofless version, incorporating an electrically-powered soft top. That means the same raging 631bhp V10, with the added drama of a 200mph hair dryer blowing over your scalp.

The Performante Spyder’s performance figures are mighty, but just a little behind that of its coupe cousin. The 0-62mph time has risen by a couple of tenths to 3.1-seconds, while the 0-124mph figure is a scant four tenths slower at 9.3-seconds. This drop in outright performance is attributable to the Spyder’s weight, which has risen by 125kg compared to the coupe, suggesting this version of the Performante won’t be the one chosen by those wishing to exploit the car’s performance to the full in extremis.

Nevertheless, losing the roof should allow for an even better appreciation of the magnificent 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10, which in Performante-spec is a wailing force of nature and undoubtedly one of key attractions of the car. Prices are yet to be confirmed, but expect approximately a 10% increase in the price over an equivalent coupe.
