Divisive styling, but still an interesting supermini alternative

  • Interesting, low running costs, fun Nismo RS
  • Some despise the looks, low on space

Design

Nissan shocked us when it brought the Juke to reality in 2010, creating what is still a uniquely quirky-looking car to market. In spite of seemingly contentious styling it has gone on to be a massive hit, causing rival car makers all to rush into the same segment. None of the newcomers is as divisive looking, so Nissan stuck to its guns in the 2014 facelift and tweaked it only subtly, adding LED daytime running lights and a lot more personalisation.

Each to their own, but we're not convinced by the success of the optional exterior pack, where buyers can choose red, white, yellow or black for the door mirrors, headlight surrounds, bumper finishers and even plastic inserts on the otherwise perfectly good alloy wheels. Still though, we're suckers for a bright paint colour with moody dark wheels, a combination that gives the Juke some real presence, no matter what's under the bonnet.

The Nismo RS has its own appeal. If you like the standard car you'll love its additions, which include a different 18in alloy wheel design, a body styling kit - influenced by racing aero says Nismo, though we suspect it's more for aesthetics than high-speed performance in the Juke - and red accents.
